The Types of Competitions and Performance Opportunities We Offer

At RISE Dance, we offer a range of competition, performance, and exam opportunities so dancers can progress in a way that suits their confidence, goals, and dance style.

Not every dancer chooses to compete, but for those who do, we make sure opportunities are supportive, age‑appropriate, and clearly explained.

UKA Ballroom and Latin competitions

We regularly enter UKA Ballroom and Latin competitions, where dancers perform with one of our qualified teachers.

These competitions are partner‑based and focus on:

  • technique
  • musicality
  • confidence on the dance floor

Dancers work on routines in class and private lessons, and the teacher dances alongside them on the day. This makes UKA competitions a popular and supportive option, especially for children and young people who are new to competing.

UKA team match competitions

We also take part in Ballroom & Latin team match competitions, where dancers compete with each other as part of a team, rather than with a teacher.

These events:

  • encourage teamwork and peer support
  • help dancers gain experience performing with others
  • are a great step for dancers building confidence in competition settings

UKA Solo competitions

UKA also offers solo Ballroom and Latin competitions, where dancers perform on their own.

Solo competitions are suitable for dancers who:

  • enjoy performing independently
  • want to focus on their individual technique
  • are ready for a different type of competitive experience

Street Dance Competitions

For our Street Dance dancers, we offer a wide range of competitive formats, including:

  • Solo competitions
  • Duo competitions
  • Team competitions
  • Freestyle categories

These competitions allow dancers to explore performance quality, musical interpretation, and individual style, as well as teamwork and choreography.

Performances and Show Opportunities

In addition to competitions, all of our children and teen dancers have opportunities to take part in:

  • performances
  • shows
  • presentation events

These experiences are open to dancers whether or not they compete and are designed to:

  • build confidence
  • celebrate progress
  • give dancers a chance to perform in a supportive environment

UKA exams and medal tests

We also offer UKA exams and medal tests for all dancers across all styles.

Exams are:

  • taken at appropriate levels for each dancer
  • prepared for within regular classes
  • assessed by an external UKA examiner

All dancers receive an official UKA certificate and medal, as well as feedback to support their ongoing development.

Important to know

Taking part in competitions, performances, or exams is always optional. Our teaching team will guide dancers and families on:

  • when someone might be ready
  • which option suits them best
  • how to get started if they are interested
